Itinerary

The spiritual group tour to Muktinath starts from Gorakhpur. Everyone gathers at the designated place in Gorakhpur by 7.00 AM. Before the drive to Muktinath begins, we have time to have a sacred morning darshan at the historic Gorakhnath Temple. It is a good way to begin a pilgrimage—grounded, unhurried, with a little bit of prayer before the road takes over.

After visiting the Gorakhnath Temple in the morning, drive toward Sunauli, the Indo-Nepal border crossing. Complete immigration, customs, and paperwork; it takes time, so keep your documents handy and your patience intact.

Once you cross over, the landscape shifts. The Terai plains open up wide and flat on either side, and by evening you are checking into a jungle resort on the banks of the Rapti River in Chitwan. The river moves slowly here. The air smells different. You are not in India anymore. Dinner and overnight stay at the resort in Chitwan.

Distance and travel time: 250 km | around 8 hours on the road

In the early morning (6.00 AM), take part in optional Chitwan National Park wildlife activities. Depending on what you have opted for, the morning could mean a jeep bumping through the jungle, a slow canoe ride with herons gliding past, or just standing quietly in the forest listening for birds. Elephant safaris are also available but must be arranged in advance.

By mid-morning, you are back at the resort for breakfast. After checkout, the group heads north toward Kathmandu. The route follows the Trishuli River for long stretches, one of those drives where you stop watching the road and just stare out the window.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, check in at your hotel. Freshen up and spend a relaxing evening exploring the vibrant streets of Thamel. Thamel at night is exactly what you need after a long day in the vehicle. Bright lights, street food smells, shops spilling onto narrow lanes. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Distance and travel: 200 km | around 6 hours

Have a hearty breakfast at the hotel, then proceed to explore Kathmandu’s sacred circuit. First visit the Pashupatinath Temple, one of the world’s most revered Hindu shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. The morning darshan is most powerful; the priests are deep into rituals along the Bagmati ghats, and the atmosphere has not yet been diluted by the midday crowds.

After the Pashupatinath Temple morning darshan, visit the nearby Guheswari Shaktipeeth, dedicated to the divine feminine power, considered one of the 51 Shakti shrines.

Take a short drive to Budhanilkantha. Have darshan of the enormous stone statue of Lord Vishnu resting on the coils of the cosmic serpent Shesha, reclining in a tank of water. It is massive, ancient, and genuinely arresting. People who know about it come specifically for this experience. People who stumble upon it are always stunned.

Your evening stop will be Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple). Climb the steps, catch your breath, and watch the sunset behind the Himalayan ridgeline with the valley spread below you and prayer flags snapping in the wind. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Have an early morning breakfast at the hotel, then proceed to visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is the place that has not rushed to modernize, and that is precisely why it is worth your time. The 55-Window Palace is remarkable, but it is the woodwork throughout the square that stays with you. Craftsmen here were doing things with timber centuries ago that most people today cannot replicate.

After Bhaktapur, drive to the hillside ridge town of Nagarkot. The ridge sits high above the valley, and on a clear day, the Himalayan range stretches across the horizon in a way that makes you stop mid-sentence. Pack a light jacket as it gets cool up here, even in warmer months. Enjoy the crisp mountain breeze and a striking sunset before returning to the city. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Have an early breakfast and check out from the hotel in Kathmandu. Drive toward the west on the Prithvi Highway. About halfway through the journey, stop at Kurintar for the Manakamna Temple darshan. The temple sits on a hilltop, and you get there by cable car. The ropeway glides above deep river gorges and forest-covered slopes. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Manakamna, believed to grant wishes, and the atmosphere up there has that particular mix of devotion and mountain air that is hard to explain but easy to feel.

By evening, reach the scenic lakeside city of Pokhara. The place is calm, Phewa Lake reflects whatever the sky is doing, and the Annapurna range sits beyond it like a painted backdrop that is somehow real. Take a walk. Sit by the water. There is nothing pressing until morning. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Pokhara.

Distance and travel: 225 km | around 9 hours including the Manakamna stop

Take your breakfast and then check out from the hotel in Pokhara. Leave early for a high-ground-clearance mountain drive. The road north follows the Kali Gandaki river corridor into the Mustang region, which is narrow in places, rough in others, always dramatic. The terrain shifts from lush river valleys to stark, high-altitude desert as you gain elevation. Vehicles need good ground clearance, and the drive requires an experienced driver who knows this road.

Reach the holy Muktinath Ji Temple (3,710 meters). The air is thin here, the light is sharp, and the place carries a weight that is hard to describe to someone who has not been. The 108 water spouts around the temple are used for ritual purification—cold water, mountain-cold, and pilgrims queue to stand under each one. If you are doing it, breathe steadily and take your time. Take a sacred purification dip under the 108 water spouts and perform holy rituals.

By evening, you descend a little to Jomsom—a windy, compact town in the valley that feels like the edge of the world. On arrival, check in at your mountain inn. Dinner and stay overnight in Jomsom.

Distance and travel: 175 km | travel time varies in mountain terrain

Check out from your accommodation in Jomsom after breakfast and then return to Pokhara by the same route. En route, enjoy sightseeing at some local stops. Visit the Bindhyawasini Temple, Pokhara's oldest temple, dedicated to Goddess Durga. Treat your eyes to views of the Seti River, milky white from glacial sediment, flowing through a deep limestone gorge. Then, visit Mahendra Cave & Gorkha Museum, a decent-sized natural limestone cave, and learn about the historic legacy of the elite Gurkha soldiers. Check in at your hotel in Pokhara. Dinner and overnight stay in Pokhara.

Distance and travel: 175 km | travel time varies in mountain terrain

Have a very hearty breakfast and check out from the hotel in Pokhara. Visit the unique Devi’s Fall, where a waterfall vanishes into an underground tunnel. Right beside the waterfall, visit the Gupteshwar Mahadev, a cave temple where the route down takes you past natural rock formations and ends at a shrine inside the earth.

Drive south out of the hills, cross back through the Sunauli border, and enter India. On arrival, a representative from Pilgrim Packages will transfer you to the Gorakhpur Railway Station or Airport for your onward journey.
