The height of the cave itself is 130 feet (40 meters). A Shiva Lingam made with ice rests inside the cave. Devotees come here for Shiva lingam darshan.
Amarnath Gufa (cave) is one of the significant pilgrimage sites of Lord Shiva. This is also one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. The Mahamaya Shakti Peethas are located inside the Amarnath Cave. Hence, it is one of the holiest Hinduism shrines in India, where the devotees must visit once in their lifetime. The ice shiva lingam here is a natural stalagmite formation. Apart from this, the two other modest stalagmite formations are considered Mata Parvati and Ganesha.
People undertake a trekking journey to reach Amarnath Cave. There are two routes to reach Amarnath. However, one should be mentally and physically fit to undertake this journey. Here are the two routes to Amarnath:

Yatra from Pahalgam
Although it is 47 km long, the Pahalgam route is the most preferable route to reach the Amarnath Cave. The journey starts from Chandanwari, which is 16 km away from Pahalgam located at 9500 feet. Then from there the Pissu top is around 3 km located at 11,000 ft. Then you will reach Sheshnag- 9 km from Pissu top, located at 11,730 feet, followed by Panjtarni-12 km ahead.
